The Household Energy Efficiency Skills project will produce a coordinated action plan for the delivery of the necessary skills and knowledge for the implementation of energy efficient homes retrofit, based on an agreed evidence base and responding to employer demand.
The project will be delivered by a voluntary group including Government departments, Asset Skills, ConstructionSkills, Energy & Utility Skills and Summit Skills. The skills and knowledge requirements for the following existing homes measures will be assessed:
- Cavity wall insulation
- Loft insulation
- Solid wall insulation (internal and external)
- High efficiency glazing
- Under floor insulation
- Draft proofing and improving air-tightness
- High efficiency boilers
- Heating controls
- Heat pumps
- Solar thermal
- Solar PV
- Other low carbon energy systems (micro-CHP, district heating connection, etc)
- High efficiency ventilation systems (MVHR)
- Home energy audits on practical measures for the home
- In home energy advice on the benefits of changing behaviour
- Telephone advice services
- Technical advice on structuring whole house improvements
- Project managing delivery of whole house improvements.
The project will deliver an evidence based review of the current state of household energy efficiency skills and knowledge requirements and delivery across Great Britain by the 1st of July 2010.
The second stage of the project will then assess the future requirements of the new coalition government’s policies in order to produce an action plan. In order to generate signatories of support for the action plan, a summit is currently planned for November 2010.
The project aims to collect a broad range of views, from employers and the skills sector (including private training providers) to ensure the action plan will deliver the appropriate training for the industry in order to meet government’s targets.
