Amendment to Energy Bill - Feed-in Tariffs

I still cannot believe how backwards the UK Government is being regarding the introduction of the feed-in tariffs (see here). This has been proved to work all over the world!
 
FITs in countries such as Denmark, Germany, India, Italy and Spain have created strong wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) markets and have added tens of thousands of jobs to the manufacturing base in those countries.
 
Most importantly, the predictability of the market in countries with FITs makes investment in the industry much easier than in the UK... We receive requests from big consumers that would like to switch to green electricity which we cannot fulfill because there is not enough capacity!

I wonder, what "better alternatives" Mr Wicks is thinking of?
