Energy Efficiency NewsFair Society, Healthy Lives
The Marmot Review, published recently, highlights the need to create and develop sustainable places and communities to alleviate health inequality. The Review identifies the challenges facing England and recommends locally developed community regeneration programmes and full integration of planning, transport, housing, environmental and health systems. In particular, improving housing energy efficiency across the social gradient through increased partnership working is proposed in the context of alleviating fuel poverty. Page 132 provides a case study of work under the auspices of the Healthy Housing and Fuel Poverty Forum which the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes initiated in 2005 and taken forward by UKPHA. This case study in Greater Manchester shows how local area partnerships bring together health, housing and fuel poverty interests to provide a highly effective way of directing services to the vulnerable.
