Carbon Emissions Reduction Target Update 07 - February 2010

Ofgem has put together a newsletter which provides details and analysis of the energy suppliers¿ activity towards the CERT overall target of 185 million lifetime tonnes of CO2.

Home Insulation Scheme in Scotland

In the Scottish Government's recent budget it was announced the Home Insulation Scheme will benefit from an increased budget from £15 million to £25 million, including £10 million for a new universal access scheme offering free insulation measures to around 90,000 homes.

Hampshire homes to benefit from Low Carbon Communities Challenge

Whitehill Bordon in Hampshire has been selected as one of the communities to benefit under the Government-funded Low Carbon Communities Challenge.

Cash will be made available up front for retrofitting of energy efficiency measures such as insulation and then paid back at the same rate as money is saved from the energy bills, meaning householders will never be out of pocket and will save money in the long-run.

Each household can apply of interest-free loans of up to £10,000.

ABBE qualification in Home Energy Advice

The Awarding Body of the Built Environment (ABBE) is a specialist awarding body that provides nationally recognised qualifications that reside in the Built Environment industry sector. These cover such disciplines as construction, surveying, plan and project management, home inspection, energy assessment and valuation.

ABBE now offers a qualification in Home Energy Advice. It is based upon parts of the five NOS units for the Home Energy Adviser created by the Sector Skills Council ¿ Asset Skills and more than covers the un-accredited C&G 6176.

Report

Understanding the real depth and impact of fuel poverty in rural England

This interim report, completed by The Rural Services Network, details the initial findings and recommendations from the Hands Up to Fuel Poverty study commissioned by the CRC (Commission for Rural Communities).

Work is now underway in three pilot areas of Durham, Shropshire and East Riding to provide additional information on the extent and impact of rural fuel poverty in these areas and to identify the local and national solutions that are needed. A final report will be issued in April 2010.

Consultation

Extending Permitted Development Rights For Domestic Micro-Wind Turbines and Air-Source Heat Pumps

This consultation by the Scottish Government seeks responses on the extent to which planning control can be reduced by making domestic Micro-Wind Turbines and Air-Source Heat Pumps microgeneration equipment 'permitted development' ( PD). The proposals seek to maintain adequate controls to prevent adverse impacts on neighbours and amenity generally, while realising the wider environmental benefits of CO2 emission reductions.
