John Healey launches proposals for more consumer-friendly homes rating Housing and Planning Minister John Healey has launched proposals for a more consumer-friendly green rating for new homes. Researchers will be appointed to undertake additional field work and write the report. Evidence should be submitted by email to housing@communities.gsi.gov.uk marked "Decent Homes Evaluation Evidence" by 8 January 2010. The Forum includes representatives from Government, unions, industry and consumers and is chaired by Business Minister Pat McFadden. The Forum aims to ensure the transition of our industrial base to low carbon creates benefits and opportunities for UK workers, businesses and consumers. Such action has not only contributed to the fight against climate change, but also tackled other difficulties faced by local people, including fuel poverty, unemployment, recession and poor health. NHER analysed the data they hold on over 300,000 EPCs issued for homes marketed for sale in England & Wales during the period January 2008 to March 2009. This quantifies the potential reduction in energy waste and CO2 emissions from the recommended measures. They also commissioned consumer research among more than 300 buyers of homes for which we held the EPC data, to assess their reaction to the EPC and their willingness to act on the recommendations.
