Showing items 741 to 760 of 873 EST Launch "Look for the Logo" Campaign19.Nov.2004 Following on from the success of this year's Energy Efficiency week, EST is maintaining a high public profile with the launch of the "Look for the Logo" campaign. The activity started earlier this month with advertisements in the weekend supplements of several daily papers, which will continue to run from November through to March. Government Publishes Public Health White Paper 19.Nov.2004 On 16th November "Choosing Health" - the Government's White Paper on improving public health in England was published. The White Paper reaffirms the Government's commitment to transforming the NHS into a health improvement and prevention service. The White Paper specifically acknowledges that "poor-quality housing has been clearly shown to have detrimental health impacts". Housing Bill Receives Royal Assent 19.Nov.2004 The Housing Bill has received Royal Assent today, which will means that Home Information Packs, including the Home Condition Report, will be required by all homes when they are sold, from January 2007. The Bill has also been amended to include a commitment to improving residential energy efficiency by at least 20% by 2010, based on levels at 2000. Last Chance Energy Boost for Community Heating Schemes 19.Nov.2004 Local authorities, housing associations, hospitals and universities across the UK are being urged to apply for the final £9 million of funding as part of the EST Community Energy Programme. The final round of Community Energy funding for Capital Grants takes place in January with the final deadline for applications on 31st January. Launch of Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership 19.Nov.2004 The Scotland and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research has been awarded funding to launch the Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership. The partnership will bring together Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Environment Protection Agency, Forestry Commission, Scottish Water and Visit Scotland. British Gas Introduce New Green Tax Rebate 12.Nov.2004 British Gas have introduced a new green tax rebate, which will encourage homeowners to become more energy efficient. By installing cavity wall insulation, homeowners can claim back £100 on their annual council tax bill. Plans for EEC 2 Go Before Parliament 12.Nov.2004 The Government's proposals for the next stage of the Energy Efficiency Commitment (EEC) were laid before Parliament on 11th November. The Order sets the target for the period from 2005-2008 and is expected to deliver savings of about 0.7MtC per annum in 2010. The target for the second period, 2008-2011, will be set in 2007. Energy Efficiency Week: "The Big Turn Off" 04.Nov.2004 Following the launch of Energy Efficiency week, with the release of the report "Forecasting The Future" last week, EST enlisted the support of some of the UK's favourite weather presenters: Sian Lloyd, Fred Talbot and Michael Fish. The week culminated with "The Big Turn off" where EST rallied the nation to participate in a national, collective effort to save energy, money and the environment. Environment in your pocket - 2004 edition published 04.Nov.2004 Defra have published the latest edition of "Environment in your pocket", which provides key trends and other statistics on the environment over recent years. This is the eighth edition of the pocket sized guide, which includes data on global atmosphere, air quality, inland water quality and use, coastal and marine waters, radioactivity, noise, waste and recycling, land use and land cover, and wildlife. Government Issue Response to the Environmental Audit Committee Report "Budget 2004 and Energy" 04.Nov.2004 The Government has published a response to the tenth Environmental Audit Committee annual report "Budget 2004 and Energy", published in August. The report stated, amongst other things, that the Climate Change Strategy is seriously off course and that a more imaginative strategy is needed. Margaret Beckett Calls for Stronger Action on Environmental Change 04.Nov.2004 At the Environment Agency annual conference "Environment 2004: choice in a changing environment" last week, Margaret Beckett challenged consumers, industry and government to do more to change their behaviour. Changing behaviour, providing environmental leadership and embedding sustainability were said to be central to Defra's Five Year Strategy to be launched next month. Report says Green Taxes Would Hit Poorest Homes Hardest 04.Nov.2004 A report published last week by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation called "Green taxes and charges" looks at how green taxes, designed to protect the environment by cutting consumption of gas, electricity, petrol and other natural resources, are likely to hit the poorest homes first. Decent Homes Receives Further 2.5bn Pound Funding 27.Oct.2004 The government's Decent Homes programme has recently been awarded a further 2.5 billion pounds in funding for Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs). The funding for ALMOs over the next two years includes #453 million allocated for councils previously awarded places on Round 4 of the ALMO programme, and #450 million given as the second allocation of funds for Round 2 ALMOs. Energy Efficiency Week 27.Oct.2004 EST's Energy Efficiency Week campaign, launched yesterday, has already received significant coverage throughout the media. The campaign is in its eighth year and has received coverage by, amongst others, the Friends of the Earth, the BBC, the Guardian, the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, Sky News, the Sunday Times, the Express and the Independent. National Statistics Figures on Environmental Impact of Households Published 27.Oct.2004 The Office for National Statistics has released a report that looks at the impact of UK households on the environment through the analysis of greenhouse gas emissions in 2001. It gives a regional breakdown of greenhouse gases directly and indirectly generated by UK households, through electricity generation, heating and cooking, and the use of private and public transport. ODPM Publishes Climate Change Advice for Planning Professionals 27.Oct.2004 ODPM has published ¿The Planning Response to Climate Change: Advice on Better Practice¿, which aims to inform planning professionals on the current thinking on the planning response to climate change. Project to Deliver Energy Advice for the Deaf 27.Oct.2004 A new innovative project has recently been launched by NEA that provides energy efficiency advice to deaf people living in the East Midlands. Meeting the Energy Needs of the Deaf (MEND) aims to help deaf people overcome the barriers that can prevent them from heating their homes affordably. Transco Issues Revised Annual Energy Forecast for Winter 2004/5 27.Oct.2004 Last week Ofgem published National Grid Transco's (NGT's revised annual energy forecast for this winter, which was originally published in May. It stated that gas supplies can be maintained, despite the declining UK reserves, and even in severe weather conditions. Visit the Flagship Home - Energy Efficiency in Action 27.Oct.2004 A project in West London is opening its doors to visitors to demonstrate just what energy savings can be achieved in hard-to-treat properties. The Flagship Home will be open from 25 October to 12 November 2004. Welsh Assembly Launches Energy Saving Wales 27.Oct.2004 Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development and Transport at the Welsh Assembly, has launched the Energy Saving Wales action plan.
