Showing items 461 to 480 of 873 Research Reveals House Buyers Will Pay More for Energy Efficient Properties31.Mar.2006 The Energy Saving Trust has found that nearly 7 out of 10 Britons are willing to pay more for homes that boast energy saving features, with almost half (44%) being prepared to invest an additional £5,000 to £10,000 for homes built to high environmental standards: sufficient levels of insulation, efficient boilers and double glazing make a homes more attractive to buyers and could even lead to a quicker sale. Government Launches Climate Change Programme 2006 28.Mar.2006 Climate Change: The UK Programme 2006 was launched by Secretary of State for the Environment, Margaret Beckett, on Tuesday. The new Programme is the result of a review, which commenced in September 2004, of all UK policies and programmes tackling climate change. Microgeneration Strategy Published and Low Carbon Buildings Programme Announced 28.Mar.2006 Today DTI published the government's new Microgeneration Strategy "Our Energy Strategy: power from the people", which includes the announcement that the Low Carbon Buildings Programme will be administered by a consortium involving the Energy Saving Trust and BRE. Charities Warn Chancellor about Impact of Rising Fuel Prices on Fuel Poor Ahead of Budget 24.Mar.2006 A host of major UK charities - including, Help the Aged, Citizens Advice Bureau, National Energy Action and energywatch - issued a joint statement warning Chancellor Gordon Brown about the impact of rising fuel prices on low-income households. The statement, made in a letter written to the Chancellor, was issued on Tuesday, one day ahead of Budget Day Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Bill Progress and Amendments 24.Mar.2006 The Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Bill has passed its Report Stage, despite efforts by a few MPs to block the Bill. It is expected to go forward to its Third Reading sometime in May or June. Since its Second Reading, substantial amendments have been made which have significantly increased the size of the Bill. EcoHomes 2006 Published 24.Mar.2006 The new EcoHomes 2006 has been published, and will come into effect on 6th April 2006. The environmental rating system for new homes has been updated in line with the new Building Regulations Part L1A for England and Wales and sets higher standards to reduce carbon emissions. EcoHomes 2006 will run as an interim measure until it is merged with the Code for Sustainable Homes later this year. Ecology Building Society to Lead Partnership Homes Purchase and Finance Group 24.Mar.2006 Paul Ellis, Chief Executive of the Ecology Building Society, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Partnership's Home Purchase and Finance Group. The Ecology Building Society specialises in mortgages for properties and projects that benefit the environment, and has recently been awarded third place in the What Mortgages category for Best Value National Building Society over 10 years. Fuel Poverty Advisory Group Publish 4th Annual Report 24.Mar.2006 The Fuel Poverty Advisory Group has published their 4th Annual Report. The fuel poverty outlook now is "gloomier" than when the target was set, according to the report and the Group warn that greater funding and commitment from Government as well as greater protection from rising prices is needed to meet the 2010 target. NEA Proposal for Welsh Sustainable Energy Zone to Combat Fuel Poverty 24.Mar.2006 The Welsh Deputy Minister for Social Justice & Regeneration has welcomed NEA Wales' proposals for a Sustainable Energy Zone to combat fuel poverty in the Heads of the Valley region. The Zone's will operate across five local authorities and will be aimed at bringing together public and private sector partners to increase investment in energy efficiency and central heating measures to reduce fuel costs. NEA Publish Guidance Note on Local Level Fuel Poverty Policy Scrutiny 24.Mar.2006 NEA has published a guidance note which highlights how scrutiny committees are crucial to assessing progress of fuel poverty policies at a local level, as well as recommending further action. ODPM Publish Sustainable Development Action Plan 24.Mar.2006 ODPM has published its sustainable development action, which pulls together and coordinates all of its activities working towards the Department's remit of achieving sustainable communities. It includes ODPM's work relating to energy efficiency and sustainable energy for homes, bringing the various strands in this area into one plan. Survey of English Housing 2003-2004 Part 4 Published 24.Mar.2006 Part four of the Survey of English Housing, a regular statistical release from ODPM, has been published, which covers "Households in deprived areas and other topics" and is the final publication under the 2003-2004 Survey. The Survey is an important source of information for those tackling fuel poverty, in particular with respect to identifying priority neighbourhoods to target fuel poverty programmes. The Future of Scottish Building Regulations 24.Mar.2006 The Scottish Executive is consulting on changes to the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004, including Section 6: Energy. Launched on 1 March 2006, the consultation seeks views on substantial changes being proposed to both content and structure to comply with the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Whilst in some places they are not as far reaching as the original proposals for the 2006 revision of the regulations in England and Wales, as they stand, the Scottish proposals are slightly stronger than the England and Wales regulations that will actually come into force on 6 April 2006. Welsh Consumer Council Report on Potential for Microgeneration in Wales 24.Mar.2006 The Welsh Consumer Council has published a report "Powerhouse? Widening Microgeneration in Wales", which discusses the potential to develop microgeneration in Wales. It addresses issues such as carbon impact, financing, and markets and highlights the links between microgeneration and energy efficiency. Budget 2006 Announcement 22.Mar.2006 The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, has today announced the Budget 2006, which include a number of points relating to domestic energy efficiency. British Gas Launch Energy Efficiency Council Tax Rebate Initiative 17.Mar.2006 British Gas have announced the launch of an initiative offering householders rebates on their annual council tax bill of up to £100 if they install energy efficiency measures. The national programme was launched by British Gas and Defra this week and is being offered in 16 local authorities and will reach 880,000 householders. EU Energy Green Paper Published 17.Mar.2006 The EU's Green Paper: A European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy has been published, which sets out the European Energy Strategy. Within it, energy efficiency will play a central role in achieving its three objectives; sustainable development, competitiveness and securing energy supply. Global Action Plan's Energy Bike 17.Mar.2006 Global Action Plan has developed an Energy Bike which is an educational tool used to communicate climate change. The Energy Bike can be hired out by businesses, communities and schools to demonstrate energy efficiency. It can be used to power a number of appliances such as televisions, radios, and low energy and conventional light bulbs, to make users see their energy use in a more tangible way and feel the benefit of energy efficiency. Home Information Pack Timeline Published 17.Mar.2006 The Government has announced the timeline for the implementation of Home Information Packs. The Packs will be introduced to consumers in June 2007 and the timeline, which has been developed by Government and Industry, will help ensure that they stay on track to deliver a successful product to consumers. Revised Building Regulations (England and Wales) Part L published 17.Mar.2006 This week the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister published the revised Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Power). This represents the first major overhaul of Part L since 2002, and will enter into force on 6 April this year.
