Low Carbon Communities Challenge 02.Oct.2009 On the 28th September DECC launched the Low Carbon Communities Challenge, a two-year programme to provide financial and advisory support to 20 'test-bed' communities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland that are seeking to cut carbon emissions. PAYS scheme update 02.Oct.2009 The Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) recently announced a Pay As You Save (PAYS) initiative to test how they can overcome consumer concerns about the upfront costs of more expensive energy efficiency and micro-generation measures. The Energy Saving Trust was appointed to manage a pilot that will test the PAYS concept. The Green Energy Bill going forward to House of Lords 15.Jul.2009 The Green Energy Bill promoted by Peter Ainsworth MP and supported by the government and front and backbenches of all three main political parties passed its 3rd Reading and Report Stage in the House of Commons today and is now going forward to the House of Lords. The UK Low Carbon Transition Plan 15.Jul.2009 The Government has published the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan which aims to move the UK onto a permanent low carbon footing and to maximise economic opportunities, growth and jobs , The plan plots how the UK will meet the cut in emissions set out in the budget of 34% on 1990 levels by 2020. A 21% reduction has already been delivered.
