Scottish Climate Change Bill passed

The Bill sets a target of reducing emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, including emissions from international aviation and shipping. It also sets an interim target for a 42 per cent cut in emissions by 2020.

UK Climate Projections 09

Last month the Government published the UK Climate Projections. The Projections are the Met Office Hadley Centre's comprehensively updated scientific projections for the UK climate up to the 2080s, under three different possible emissions scenarios.

European Parliament votes on energy labelling

The European Parliament has blocked the European Commission's proposal for introducing energy labels for TVs which would comprise a sub-divided highest energy efficiency class A. MEPs did however approve a new labelling scheme for household fridges and freezers.

The Mayor of London today has pledged £3 million to develop 10 flagship Low Carbon Zones in the capital to help cut carbon emissions, create jobs and cut energy bills in the capital.

Minimum standards for External Power Supplies from May 2010

External power supplies for electronic games and radios etc will shortly have to consume less than half of one Watt when left plugged in but not powering anything, as well as meeting minimum requirements for efficiency when in use.

The TV designer Kevin McCloud is fronting the Great British Refurb campaign which calls for Government to take the financial sting out of installing better insulation and other measures to improve the environmental performance of existing homes.

B&Q insulation deals

In February, B&Q announced it would be selling 1 million rolls of loft insulation for £1 a roll. Just over 22 rolls are needed to insulate the average home, and around £200 can be saved on annual energy bills.

EU ban on incandescent light bulbs confirmed

An EU ban on the sale of all incandescent and low-efficiency halogen light bulbs by 2012 was confirmed when the European Commission formally adopted two implementing regulations under the bloc's ecodesign directive.
