Latest News DECC's New Ministers01.Jul.2009 Residential Heat Summit 01.Jul.2009 The Residential Heat Summit hosted by the Energy Efficiency Partnership for Homes (EEPH) in June brought together all sides of the residential heating sector. Scottish Climate Change Bill passed 01.Jul.2009 The Bill sets a target of reducing emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, including emissions from international aviation and shipping. It also sets an interim target for a 42 per cent cut in emissions by 2020. UK Climate Projections 09 01.Jul.2009 Last month the Government published the UK Climate Projections. The Projections are the Met Office Hadley Centre's comprehensively updated scientific projections for the UK climate up to the 2080s, under three different possible emissions scenarios. European Parliament votes on energy labelling 21.May.2009 The European Parliament has blocked the European Commission's proposal for introducing energy labels for TVs which would comprise a sub-divided highest energy efficiency class A. MEPs did however approve a new labelling scheme for household fridges and freezers. Low Carbon Housing: developing a baseline for refurbishment in the West Midlands 21.May.2009 The Report was jointly commissioned by the West Midlands Regional Assembly and Advantage West Midlands as part of the West Midlands Regional Climate Change Action Plan. Warm Front scheme reviewed 21.May.2009 Following a review of Warm Front with eaga the Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced changes to the scheme. London Mayor announces £3m to develop low carbon zones 13.May.2009 The Mayor of London today has pledged £3 million to develop 10 flagship Low Carbon Zones in the capital to help cut carbon emissions, create jobs and cut energy bills in the capital. Minimum standards for External Power Supplies from May 2010 13.May.2009 External power supplies for electronic games and radios etc will shortly have to consume less than half of one Watt when left plugged in but not powering anything, as well as meeting minimum requirements for efficiency when in use. The Great British Refurb campaign launched 13.May.2009 The TV designer Kevin McCloud is fronting the Great British Refurb campaign which calls for Government to take the financial sting out of installing better insulation and other measures to improve the environmental performance of existing homes. B&Q insulation deals 24.Apr.2009 In February, B&Q announced it would be selling 1 million rolls of loft insulation for £1 a roll. Just over 22 rolls are needed to insulate the average home, and around £200 can be saved on annual energy bills. EU Member States approve new energy proposals for appliances 24.Apr.2009 EU Member States have supported new rules to improve the energy performance and energy labelling system of televisions and white goods. Budget 2009 22.Apr.2009 Details of the 2009 Budget announced on the 22nd April. EU ban on incandescent light bulbs confirmed 09.Apr.2009 An EU ban on the sale of all incandescent and low-efficiency halogen light bulbs by 2012 was confirmed when the European Commission formally adopted two implementing regulations under the bloc's ecodesign directive. Low Carbon Industrial Strategy 09.Apr.2009 At the Low Carbon Industrial Strategy Summit in London on the 6th March the Prime Minister said that to ensure economic recovery business leaders should make the transition to a low carbon economy. Ofgem publish their fuel poverty action programme 09.Apr.2009 Last April, Ofgem held a Fuel Poverty Summit which aimed to identify and target those who are in fuel poor and most in need. The event focused on improved targeting of existing help to those who need it most.
